We are very excited for you all to meet this week’s #FEMMEFEATUREFRIDAY: Allison Claire! This beautiful young lady is not only a powerhouse on stage, but she is a kind soul and a giving spirit. She is a beautiful example of how being different makes you irreplaceable and how you can create your own path in whatever industry you desire. She's taken the dance world by a storm and there's no stopping this inspiring woman.
Allison Claire was raised in Buffalo NY and began dancing at the age of 2. By the age of 10, Allison was trained in various styles and quickly developed a deep love and passion for dance. In 2011, after touring the country and assisting prestigious choreographers such as Brian Friedman and Gil Duldulao as a Pulse On Tour Elite Protege, Allison made her move to Los Angeles. Since then, she's had the pleasure of working with artists such as Logic, Kat Graham, and Wiz Khalifa. On the acting front, she has been seen on networks such as Nickelodeon, MTV, Freeform, and Showtime.
Most recently, Allison fulfilled one of her biggest dance dreams by touring the world alongside the iconic Janet Jackson! It’s been so incredible to follow her journey on both the “Unbreakable” and “State Of The World” tours and she absolutely murders the stage every time she's out there. Allison is a leading role model for our YGTGirls because no matter how many “no”s she may have heard and no matter how many times this woman was told she doesn't belong, she's kept believing in her own worth and striving for her goals. She truly embraces every part of who she is, and knows she can accomplish the impossible. We are definitely not done seeing this talented dancer and teacher succeed, and we know she’ll continue to inspire so many around her. Thank you Allison for taking the time to answer our questions! We love ya!
You are such an inspiration for girls everywhere who feel like they have to fit into a stereotypical mold. What advice would you give to a girl who feels self-conscious about her body type?
You are no different than anybody else. Just because we have been given a different body type than people society says is right, doesn’t mean we should punish ourselves. If you are willing to put in the work, there is no reason you can’t achieve what you want. Some of us can work out, eat healthy, and never be as skinny as the “society norm” ... That’s totally fine. Never let your body hold you back. Everybody is beautiful and should be treated as such.
Who do you look up to and why?
I look up to my mom. She is the one who gave me this mentality. I have always been the thick girl, but she taught me not to notice it. She taught me that I can do whatever I want as long as I am willing to do the work for it.
How do you think we can empower females more in our society?
We need to stop shaming each other for not being or looking the way society wants. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t support living an unhealthy lifestyle but like I said before... some of us eat very healthy and workout, but are still thick. We were all given something different, and we all need to be more accepting and supportive of one another. Especially in the world we live in right now with all the hate, we need some love going around.
What do you do to pick yourself up when you feel down?
I dance. I feel like dance is therapy. I have always said a dance studio is the one place you can throw yourself around the room in happiness, sadness, anger, whatever, and be applauded for it. I always feel better after a good class.
What’s your definition of a YGTGirl?
A YGTGirl to me is someone who is a no nonsense strong minded female. They have the will and the want to get wherever they want to be in life.
