This superstar has danced around the globe with some of the biggest names in the music and entertainment industry. Alessandra began her professional dancing career touring with Canada’s largest dance music festival, Escapade Music Festival, dancing for world-renowned DJ’s such as Diplo, Skrillex, Calvin Harris, Steve Angello, and Nervo. Alessandra now permanently resides in Los Angeles, California, working full-time as a professional dancer and choreographer. Since her move out west, she has had the privilege of working with Brian Friedman, in the creation of his brand-new Las Vegas dance show, A Mob Story. She’s also had the opportunity to work alongside industry greats such as Chris Scott, Kenny Wormald, Richy Jackson, and WilldaBeast & Janelle Ginestra. In addition, Alessandra can be seen dancing in commercials for Spotify, JBL Audio, Zumba and Diageo Liqueur, and she stars in music videos for Meghan Trainor, Jhené Aiko, and most recently the lead dancer in Snoop Dogg’s new music video “Woofer”.
Alessandra’s playful nature and curious mind continue to be her guide in self-discovery. We love how Alessandra continues to grow and evolve by creating the time to understand her emotions. This awareness has allowed her to get in tune with the reasons why she makes certain decisions. Getting to know yourself is a never-ending journey and she has learned to listen to her authentic voice by questioning everything she has come to “know”. A big part of this realization for Alessandra was when she travelled to Goa, India to complete her yoga teacher training. She is now teaching at Yoga Noho in LA. You’ve had the privilege of living and travelling all over the world. Tell us about what travel has taught you. How have your experiences abroad changed the way you live your life?
I can truly say that I wouldn’t be where I am, or the person I am today without travel.
I was 19, finishing up my second year of University studying Biochemistry, and decided to spend my summer backpacking through Europe. When I returned to University after that summer, I could feel in my being that everything had changed. I started to question everything. This was so bizarre to me as before traveling, I was so stubbornly certain of the path I was on and how my life was going to unfold. I was going to get my Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry, go to Dentistry school, open up my own Dental Practice, and live a “perfect” life. Then travel came and hit me like a freight train and made me question my “WHY”. Travel made me realize that I didn’t even know WHY I wanted all of these things.
Fast-forward graduating University, and two more Euro trips later; I was faced with one of the toughest decisions of my life. I was accepted into Dentistry school, a feat I had dreamed of and worked so hard for, however I wasn’t the least bit excited about.
Dance was always my true love. Having danced competitively since the age of 3, and then turned to teaching and choreographing throughout University, the dreamer in me always secretly wanted to pursue it. I wanted so badly to move to LA and be a professional dancer, but I allowed fear to silence those thoughts, and to convince myself I was stupid for even thinking about it. I didn’t believe in myself, however travel slowly started to open my mind and awaken that voice inside of me.
I declined Dentistry school, and decided to move to Australia for a year. That year in Australia, along with spending two months in India training to becoming a Yoga Instructor, pushed me even further in my journey of self-discovery. Finally, I felt in tune with my truest self, and felt confident and fearless enough to move to LA and pursue dance, and I haven’t looked back since!
Ultimately, travel taught me to be uniquely me, and I will always believe in that power.
What motivates you to keep pushing and pursuing your dreams, even in moments of doubt?
I truly have faith that if you believe it, you can achieve it. Knowing this alone motivates me to keep pushing, and I trust that everything that is meant to happen will happen at the right time. Of course, we all have moments of doubt, but in those moments I always question myself and ask if this doubt is coming from a genuine place, or if it is coming from a fear of failure. I think it is incredibly important to always question your thoughts, to stay in tune with your unique self and your key values, and to be open to the fact that your goals and ambitions may change, and there is nothing wrong with that!
What do you feel is your biggest strength? What is your biggest weakness?
I’d like to think that my biggest strength is my energy. I aspire to always be an electric light that radiates love and passion.
There are always habits that are hard to break, and self-limiting beliefs that seem impossible to re-wire from your subconscious. Consistency is one for me. I have a tendency to be an extremist; it’s either one far end of the spectrum or the other, and I’m working towards finding that consistent middle ground. However, we will always have new strengths and weaknesses as we continue to grow and evolve, and I think it’s important to enjoy the journey, and to be open and excited about the ever-changing evolution.
Why do you think female empowerment is important? What do you think women have to offer the world?
Female empowerment isn’t just important; it is a necessity in order for our society to progress in any way shape or form. We have made massive strides just in my lifetime alone, but I know there is still so much to be done! Every bit counts, and if I can play even a little role in empowering another female to get out there and chase her dream, then I will be fulfilled.
Women have EVERYTHING to offer the world and more. Our abilities and skills are infinite. There is nothing a woman cannot do, and it’s time we all start truly believing it and completely supporting each other.
What’s your definition of a YGTGirl?
A YGTGirl, is a confident, passionate, kind, loving, dream-chasing, ambitious, fearless and unapologetic female who is ready to conquer her world!
